Where to stay in Formigal: a guide to the area and nearby villages

Formigal isn't the only place to sleep if you're coming to ski or hike in the Aragonese Pyrenees: you can also stay in nearby villages such as Sallent de Gállego or Lanuza, or a little further out, in Biescas. Here are the real distances to the slopes and the advantages of each area, so you can choose with your eyes open.

Areas to stay near Formigal

🏔️ Formigal (resort centre)

This is where Formigal365 is. A purpose-built development right next to the slopes, with hotels, apartments, restaurants and a supermarket all within walking distance. For skiers, it's the option with the least logistics: no car needed to reach the slopes or to go out for dinner — everything is on foot.

🏘️ Sallent de Gállego

A stone-and-slate village about 6 km from Formigal (around a 10-minute drive along the Portalet road). A real village atmosphere, not a resort: a town square, local life, the Aguas Limpias spa, and well-regarded restaurants such as Casa Martón, Tres Quiñones or Asador Casa Jaimico. The trade-off: you need a car to get up to the slopes each day.

🌊 Lanuza

A small, restored village on the shore of the Lanuza reservoir, very close to Formigal — the nearest slope access point is just over 1.5 km away. It's beautiful and quiet, also known for the Pirineos Sur festival, but has very few restaurants or shops of its own: a more rural, scenic option than a practical one for day-to-day skiing.

🏙️ Biescas (or further, Sabiñánigo)

If you want more services (larger supermarkets, more restaurant choice) or somewhat lower prices, Biescas is about 23 km from the Formigal slopes, already outside the Tena valley. It has more year-round life, but that means 25-30 minutes' drive each way to the slopes — noticeable if you're skiing several days in a row. Sabiñánigo, with even more shops and services, is further still.

Approximate driving distances; they can vary somewhat depending on the exact starting point and winter road conditions.
